Facts of the Fatal Phoenix Accident
In late 2023, Phoenix police said they responded to Tatum and Shea Boulevards regarding a crash between two vehicles. The time was just before 2 a.m. on a Saturday morning.
Both vehicles were still at the accident scene when the police arrived. The authorities found 28-year-old Alec Carbine in the back of a rideshare vehicle. He had critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died. The driver of the rideshare vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
The other car involved was driven by a woman and the vehicle had three passengers (two adults and a teenager). One of the adult passengers suffered serious injuries, but none were life-threatening. The other two passengers sustained only minor injuries.
Police believe the cause of the accident was that the second vehicle ran a red light and hit the rideshare vehicle. There were no signs of impairment.
Common Causes of Rideshare Accidents
There are five main causes for rideshare accidents. These include:
- Speeding by rideshare drivers,
- Rideshare driver fatigue,
- Drivers ignoring dangerous road conditions,
- Rideshare drivers committing traffic violations, and
- Driver distraction.
The Phoenix case shows that another common cause of rideshare accidents is other drivers, non-rideshare drivers, committing traffic violations.
No matter the cause of the accident, the reality still remains that rideshare services still pose a safety concern.
